Portfolio

In 2013 I have only done a few pieces with my focus on hollow forms and creating special effects from defects in the woods but the photos will explain it the best

Indian Mahogany hollow form retaining as much as possible from some special growth in the sapwood
Another Indian Mahogany Hollow form, retaining some bark and adding a ring from a darker wood to round it off
A piece from Olive wood and although the opening on the side is quite big, the effective opening for hollowing is quite small. This was my most challenging piece of 2013. In the mean time I have made a small pedestal for this piece during the course which I took with Nick Agar and I will show this in one of my next postings

A selection of my work in 2011 where I experimented with colour and and special effects

Indian Mahogany, turned very wet, small beads on the outside which was then sandblasted to enhance the effect of the grain. Black spirit based stain with a red rim to provide contrast between the outside and the inside natural wood. Inside finished with several layers of woodoc 10 for shiny finish.
European Ash, sandblasted, stained with spirit stain (applied with airbrush), grain then filled with wax. Final finish woodoc 5 to provide matt finish
European Ash, sandblasted, stained black, sanded again to leave the black stain only in the sandblasted grain. Then stained red and finished with woodoc 10 to a gloss finish
Resin wood, finished with Danish oil
Privet, sandblasted and stained with black spirit stain. Finished with Woodoc 5 to give a matt finish

Indian Mahogany, small beads on the outside, finished with acrylic blue paint.
Jacaranda, turned wet, finished with spirit stain with Woodoc 10 for a shiny finish
